Decorating ideas for a Jubilee baby's room...

The Jubilee weekend is nearly upon us, and I have to admit to being just a little bit excited!
It's lovely to see all the red, white and blue bunting out...in the sunshine...!

If you haven't already had 'Union Jack' overload take a look at a Dreams and Wishes design for a Jubilee nursery...that's stylish enough to last beyond the Summer...

Our starting point...gorgeous wallpaper...showing London landmarks.

Close up, it looks like a child's book illustration...

A vintage style cot with red gingham bedding sits in front of our feature wall....

And opposite...a reclaimed pine dresser base...to break up all that red, white and blue...and somewhere to put all the baby 'bits and pieces'. It can also double as a changing table.

A simple Lloyd Loom chair filled with regally inspired cushions offers comfort for night-time feeds...

Geometric print fabrics in a pale grey-blue add a modern twist, for blinds, curtains and soft furnishings.

Accessorise with...yes, you've guessed it, some bunting....

...some wall art....

...and vintage wooden toys...

Lots of white in this scheme give it a light, fresh feel...even in a small room...and the 'strawberry' reds in the accessories stop the effect being too cool...
'True Brit' style for Summer 2012...and beyond.

Tracy Kendall wallpapers...yes or no for a kid's room...

I love these beautifully eccentric wallpapers stuck all over with sequins, jigsaw pieces or buttons...
What a talking point they would make...?

And how I would just love to see them in a kid's room...not sure that there wouldn't be gaps appearing as the little ones started pulling bits off though...!

Just as well there's more to choose from on Tracy's website...

Liking the 'books' and dominoes...

I'm off to measure up the kitchen for a sequined splashback...!

Summer pastels inspire interior design...

Pastels are big in fashion this Summer, so it stands to reason that they're gonna' be big in interiors too.
If you're a little afraid of the bold colour-blocking we've seen lately, this will be perfect for you.

You'll find inspiration everywhere right now...here's some ideas we found at Dreams and Wishes...

Then start adding the colours to your home...

A 'before and after' that's all my own work.

Finally! A few days of good weather and my garden started to look like a second-hand furniture store...but I did manage to complete at least one of the many make-over projects....and here it is...

Before....

...and after...

After a lot of sanding, painting and sticking with glue I've done it...a kid's bedside table.
The drawer and cupboard are lined with  Beano comic strips...What do you think ?

Simple kid's room storage using shelves.

With all the trinkets and baubles, lego pieces and teeny-tiny toys that populate any child's room, it can be a daunting task for any parent to find somewhere to put everything...

Shelves must be one of the most versatile and cost-effective way of housing all the assorted bits, large or small....download some Dreams and Wishes suggestions here...

Stylish display ideas for photo's of the kids.

Traditional freestanding photo frames take up space and can leave a room looking cluttered...it's time to be more imaginative about displaying treasured moments of your child's development.

Keeping the frames simple in design and colour gives a uniformity to this striking display...the choice of black and white images keeps it 'edgy' and modern.

The addition of a bit of neutral colour brings this random selection of frames and images together...in a relaxed display...I do so love the use of these narrow shelves too.

Whilst the colours in this display are still limited to neutrals, the frames are more random...and the addition of other decorative features breaks up all the 'squares'...

A staircase wall is often left empty of colour or interest...but can be transformed with a gallery of family photos...

A vintage window frame makes a perfect vignette for these equally vintage photos...

What about a wallpaper-esque montage for a feature wall...?
I love the 1970's golden tone of these images.

This old blackboard works as a giant frame for an ad-hoc display...easy to update!

A pinboard is another easy easy solution for everyday snapshots of family life.

Pegging photos onto wire mesh screens, lengths of ribbon and string or wooden frames make easy-to-use displays that the kids can update with their favourite images.
